The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
